Obtaining one-stop shop services from freezones

One of the biggest incentives to joining a free zone in Dubai is the level of business support free zones offer. Since free zones operate as self-contained ‘offshore’ areas, each free zone authority maintains its own system of providing services to its member businesses.

Free zone authorities take care of nearly every aspect of business set up and management – instead of going to and from separate government departments, businesses working within a free zone deal almost exclusively with the free zone authority. For example, when hiring a new employee, a free zone company will obtain that employee’s visa through the free zone authority. Any amendments to the free zone trade licence is also performed through the relevant free zone authority. The fees for each business service provided by a free zone authority differ from one zone to the other.

There are over 20 free zones in Dubai distributed into 10 major sectors including: industrial, logistics, media, ICT, financial, aviation, humanitarian, commodities, education & other. To coordinate and liaise between all the free zones, Dubai Government has established the Dubai Freezone Council.

The Dubai Freezone Council is chaired by HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and proposes policies and rules for registration, licensing and monitoring activities within free zones while coordinating its activities and growth in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015.
