Owners of classic cars are eligible to drive them in Dubai, subject to special license plates from RTA and registration from ATC. To get a classic car license, the vehicle must be over 30 years old and meet all safety criteria, as set by the Automobile Touring Club UAE (ATC) and RTA. Two tests will be undertaken to determine if the car can be deemed a classic. The first test will study the visual aspects of the car, while the second test determines the safety and environment-friendliness of the car. Based on the tests, all classic cars will be placed in six categories. These include Category A (cars manufactured between 1950 and 1980, can be driven on all roads, but not more than 10,000 kilometres a year); Category B (manufactured before 1950, all roads but not more than 5,000 kilometres a year; Category C (cannot be driven on highways); Category D (only driven during daytime); Category E (only driven on internal and service roads) and Category F (purely for display).
