Private transportation

Dubai is emerging as one of the most modern cities in the world, equipped with modern infrastructure. The government has invested heavily to build a technologically advanced and convenient network of public transportation facilities. From public means like the Dubai Metro, buses, taxis, and marine transportation to private transport, the city offers easy and affordable travel to visitors and residents alike, in city as well as inter-emirates. Whatever mode you choose, the road and traffic system offers easy navigation within the city.

Using Private transportation
An efficient network of roads, highways and flyovers along with a smooth traffic system make driving a car in Dubai a real pleasure. A valid UAE/ international driving license is a must. Knowing the traffic and penalty laws and the road toll (Salik) rules is essential for all drivers.  Road signage in green is used for the main locations within Dubai, blue signage shows the directions of other emirates, while brown is used to indicate landmarks, and white is used to indicate street names.

The Dubai government has introduced mParking Service through the mobile phone to ease payment of parking fees. The service can be used at all paid parking zones in the emirate.Dubai roadmaps are available to provide navigational assistance. There are plenty of car rental services available for varying budgets and needs. In case you have hired a car, do note that most petrol stations in Dubai do not accept credit cards, so keep your cash ready.

Mini-buses in Dubai must have speed-locking device
All mini-buses in Dubai and the UAE(capacity of less than 22 passengers) used to transport employees/passengers must have a speed locking device to ensure the bus does not go over 100 kms per hour. Furthermore, Furthermore, middle row/aisle seats are not permitted to ensure further safety. This is as per the UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 6 of 2011 on the amendment of the UAE standard No. 24/2011 for safety standards of public buses, and as part of the Ministry of Interior's strategy to provide safety and security. Any mini-bus that does not abide by these specifications will not be registered or allowed to travel on the roads in Dubai or the UAE.
