Volunteering is another aspect of philanthropy and a door that can be used by the rich and the poor alike, enabling you to offer your effort, time and experience. Dubai Government encourages you to join as a volunteer in any of the accredited charities and social initiatives in Dubai and UAE. International Humanitarian City is also spearheading the growth of Corporate Social Responsibility in the region and encourages volunteers to join its member programmes.
In February 2011, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai issued a decree to establish the Dubai Appreciation Award for community service. This award will honour individuals and personalities from the private and community sector and civil society, who have demonstrated their service to society in the areas of health, education and social welfare. HH Sheikh Mohammed also appointed Dubai Police Chief, H.E Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, as Chairman of the award.
At the corporate level, and to recognize corporate social responsibility (CSR) among companies, Dubai Chamber introduced the CSR label in September 2010. Benefits include being recognized as a responsible company, your company's enhanced reputation and easier retention of your employees. To qualify, companies can complete an online self-evaluation and provide supporting documentation. They will receive feedback from Dubai Chamber based on average scores achieved in environment, community, workplace & marketplace. Companies can then proceed to Step 2 to provide detailed information as per assessment form, a letter of commitment to CSR from CEO/Head and evaluation fee. If your application is successful, you will then be eligible to receive the CSR label for your company.
