Renew your driving licence in Dubai

You can renew your driving licence easily through RTA's website www.rta.ae or its smart app. You can also renew your licence through RTA's 7 mall outlets, through 17 Dubai driving institutes or through 9 approved optical shops. For more information, please call RTA's call centre on 800 9090.

Required documents

For citizens and residents:

Original Emirates ID
Eye test
Clearance letter from the driving institute as proof of fees payment
 
For citizens living outside UAE:

Original Emirates ID
Copy of the passport with valid visa page
Eye test
Clearance letter as proof of fees payment
Official authorisation stamped by the UAE embassy

Service fees

100 AED for renewing a driver license
+ 20 AED knowledge and innovation fees
Note: The fine for the delay in renewing the driving license is 10 AED per month, with a maximum of 500 AED.

Validity

10 years validity for 21 years old and above
1 year starting 18 years old.

Process

Through the website:

The customer uploads all the scanned required documents

Through the centres or kiosk:

The customer submits all the required documents

The customer is required to pay all the due fines in one of the above mentioned Customer Happiness Centers.

Through the call centre:

The customer contacts the call centre and provides RTA with the lost or damaged driving license number
The customer is required to pay the fines by credit card
RTA verifies the submitted documents and issues a replacement for the lost or damaged license

Through the optical shops:

The customer submits all the required documents
The customer is required to pay all the due fines

 

Note 1: The customer receives a temporary driving license while waiting for the original license which can be delivered through 2 channels:
Customer Happiness Centres in Deira or Al Barsha
By courier, with an additional fee of 20 AED.

Note 2: The validity of the temporary license varies between 5 and 15 days.
