Endowment (Waqf) is a sustainable charitable asset with returns that are used to support social, educational, health, and community development initiatives. Rooted in long-standing Islamic traditions, endowments are managed and regulated through specialized government bodies such as Awqaf Dubai.
The foundation carries out regulatory supervision over endowments by investing in and managing endowments’ funds and properties. It also manages the distribution of asset revenues as per the endower in a Sharia-compliant manner as well as allocates funds for good causes nationwide.
Awqaf Dubai manages endowment initiatives and projects in Health, Education, Islamic affairs, social affairs, and Righteousness and piety.
Mohammed bin Rashid Endowment District
The Mohammed bin Rashid Endowment District is a pioneering project, designed to be the region’s first integrated endowment neighborhood. Spanning two million square feet with investments totaling AED 4.7 billion, the district’s sustainable revenues are dedicated to supporting the health and education sectors worldwide.
The project includes a state-of-the-art hospital, a medical college, two schools, and more than 2,000 residential units, along with various service and commercial facilities—forming a vibrant community that serves over 12,000 people daily.
